A hometown award
The Best of West Hawaii awards are voted by West Hawaii Today readers — patients, neighbors, and families across the island's west side. For a surgeon raised in Kea‘au who performed the Big Island's first robotic-assisted joint replacement at Kona Community Hospital, being voted 2023 Best Physician by that community carries a weight that professional awards don't quite match.
What Big Island patients get today
The recognition reflects a commitment that has only grown since: regular clinic days in Kailua-Kona and Hilo, robotic hip and knee replacement performed on-island at Hilo Community Surgery Center with the Mako robot, and telehealth between visits — so Hawai‘i Island families get the same standard of joint care as Honolulu, without the flight. Dr. Morton has also been named a Honolulu Magazine Top Doctor in peer-nominated voting, including the 2024 and 2025 lists.

West Hawai‘i readers voted Dr. Morton Best Physician again in 2024 — back-to-back honors from the community he grew up in and returned home to serve.
